Aam Aadmi Party

A party built around anti-corruption and public services faces a difficult test of its own claims: uneven parliamentary reach, the loss of Delhi government and excise proceedings whose status changed substantially after the election.

Identity & faction boundaries

AAP’s own account places formation in November 2012. Earlier national-election rows therefore mean not formed, not zero seats. Its Delhi and Punjab organisations and Assembly mandates must be distinguished from national expansion. [opp-a-aap-review24]

Scope: Historical analysis from 2004 through the 11 October 2026 research check. The inspected episodes and source notes define coverage; gaps in a later docket, electoral edition or implementation record are disclosed. No overall factual verdict or party score.

Affiliations, with their dates

These are dated records, not a claim that every arrangement remains unchanged at publication.

  1. Participant in the founding INDIA meeting; this historical affiliation is not a perpetual nationwide seat-sharing pact. [opp-india-formation][opp-roster-report]

  2. AAP’s own review describes the anti-BJP national campaign and fewer-than-expected seats; it is an account of the 2024 campaign, not a universal ongoing electoral pact. [opp-a-aap-review24]

Seats are outcomes, not explanations

The election record

Five completed Lok Sabha cycles, followed by selected Assembly results. A predecessor is a separate party series. “Unknown” means this review could not establish the total; it does not mean zero.

Turning points

  1. Leadership

    The movement becomes a party

AAP’s published review dates its creation to November 2012 and links it to the anti-corruption movement. Formation claims and internal election rules do not by themselves demonstrate present internal accountability. [opp-a-aap-review24][opp-a-aap-model25]

  2. Election

The party acknowledges an electoral shortfall

The party’s office-bearers acknowledged fewer seats than intended and attributed difficulties to imprisonment and institutional obstruction. Those are party explanations; the statutory national result records three AAP winners. [opp-a-aap-review24][opp-eci-2024]

  3. Election

    Delhi’s mandate moves to BJP

The full 70-member gazette identifies 22 AAP winners and 48 BJP winners. AAP therefore lost its Assembly majority and executive position; this is an electoral outcome, independent of the later excise-case discharge. [opp-a-delhi-results25]

  4. Oversight

    Excise oversight reaches the Assembly

CAG’s official overview describes licensing, design and implementation deficiencies and approximately ₹2,026.91 crore in overall financial implications. The total covers audit findings; it is not a personal-kickback figure. [opp-a-aap-excise-audit25]

  5. Governance

AAP defends its service model after leaving Delhi office

At the Mohali book launch the party defended its schools, health and utility policies and criticised Delhi’s successor administration. These are political claims requiring service and financial records for independent assessment. [opp-a-aap-model25]

  6. Oversight

The CBI accused are discharged; the challenge continues

The later original High Court judgment records the trial discharge and CBI revision. A historical account that repeats arrest or bail without this subsequent development is incomplete. [opp-a-aap-revision26]

  7. Oversight

Recusal is decided, not the revision’s merits

The High Court rejected applications seeking recusal while distinguishing revision against discharge from earlier bail and arrest proceedings. The inspected order does not reverse the discharge or convict an accused. [opp-a-aap-revision26]

Audit findings and criminal proceedings answer different questions

CAG criticism challenges the administration’s anti-corruption and efficiency claims. But audit financial implications are not proven bribes. The 2026 High Court record confirms a discharge challenged by CBI; it does not dispose of every ED proceeding. Inspection gap: the latest October operative revision order and complete trial discharge reasons were not authenticated in this edition. [opp-a-aap-excise-audit25][opp-a-aap-revision26]

Founder control is not automatically a family dynasty

AAP’s own retrospective centres Kejriwal and an identifiable senior leadership group. Analysis: concentrated founder authority should face open selection and review standards. The inspected documents do not establish a hereditary transfer of party office or an unlawful benefit to relatives; this profile does not manufacture one. [opp-a-aap-model25][opp-a-aap-review24]

Religious symbolism appears in AAP’s own election explanation

The June review includes Saurabh Bharadwaj invoking Lord Rama in his explanation of BJP’s Ayodhya setback. Analysis: attributing a result to divine disapproval is campaign rhetoric, not an empirical voter finding. The inspected text is criticism framed through Hindu symbolism, rather than evidence that AAP attacks all Hindu believers. [opp-a-aap-review24]

A claimed model needs outcomes as well as a brand

AAP’s July 2025 release presents schools, clinics, electricity and water as its governing legacy. Analysis: service access and fiscal sustainability should be measured independently. The excise audit is one documented weakness; it cannot alone establish that every service programme failed. [opp-a-aap-model25][opp-a-aap-excise-audit25]

National ambition and local mandates are separate tests

Analysis: three national winners did not meet the party’s declared aspiration. Its own June review acknowledges that shortfall while emphasising difficult conditions. Detention, alliance choices, local incumbency and service perceptions need separate constituency evidence; none is mechanically proved as the cause by the result alone. [opp-eci-2024][opp-a-aap-review24]

The 2025 Delhi gazette establishes the Assembly outcome: AAP won 22 of 70 seats, BJP 48. Analysis: the subsequent criminal discharge changes the case history; it does not reverse the election. The party’s defence of its service model remains an explanation to test against voter research and independent outcomes. [opp-a-delhi-results25][opp-a-aap-model25][opp-a-aap-revision26]
