Kerala Congress (Mani)
A documented 2019 leadership transition, a 2020 shift from UDF to LDF and a farmer-centred ideology, separated from other Kerala Congress organisations.
Identity & faction boundaries
Kerala Congress (M) traces its organisational name to 1979. The party’s history dates K. M. Mani’s death to 9 April 2019 and Jose K. Mani’s selection as chair to 16 June. The Joseph and Mani organisations have a shared lineage but separate later leadership and alliance records. [opp-c-kcm-history]
Scope: Selected developments from 2004 onward, checked against the sources linked below. Election labels, organisational affiliations, proposals and institutional findings are distinguished. This is a bounded historical profile, not a complete case or expenditure register.
Affiliations, with their dates
These are dated records, not a claim that every arrangement remains unchanged at publication.
A precise alliance transition date was not authenticated in this profile’s inspected records. Organisational identity is described above; a missing date is not treated as non-membership.
The election record
Five completed Lok Sabha cycles, followed by selected Assembly results. A predecessor is a separate party series. “Unknown” means this review could not establish the total; it does not mean zero.
| Election | Party identity / series | Seats won | Context & source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 · Lok SabhaIndia | Kerala Congress (M) | 0 | The original comparative table records one contest and no winner. [opp-c-historical-results] |
| 2009 · Lok SabhaKerala | Kerala Congress (M) | 1 | The original state-party table records one Kerala contest and one win. [opp-eci-2009] |
| 2014 · Lok SabhaIndia | Kerala Congress (M) | 1 | The original 2014 ECI state-party annexure records one contest and one win. [opp-eci-2014] |
| 2019 · Lok SabhaKerala | Kerala Congress (M) | 1 | The electoral label predates the later 2020 alliance split; present alliances are not projected backwards. [opp-c-pib2019-league-rsp-kcm] |

Turning points
- Religion
A textbook and religion issue raised in the Assembly
The official motions index records K. M. Mani raising concerns about a seventh-standard textbook’s treatment of belief, religion and political ideas. These are the motion’s stated concerns, not an authenticated finding that the textbook harmed a faith. [opp-c-kerala-motions]
- Election
One Lok Sabha win
The recognised-state report records one Kerala Congress (M) contest and one winner. It is a formal party result, not the sum of all Kerala Congress factions. [opp-eci-2009]
- Leadership
A new chair after Mani’s death
The party’s history and chair biography describe Jose K. Mani’s selection after K. M. Mani died. The event and its stated selection process are preserved as the party account. [opp-c-kcm-history][opp-c-kcm-chair]
- Alliance
A shift to the LDF
The party history records joining the LDF before the local election. This is a meaningful change of governing partners; it does not itself establish whether earlier or later policy claims were fulfilled. [opp-c-kcm-history]
- Governance
Participation in the 15th Assembly government
The party describes five MLAs, Roshy Augustine’s Water Resources portfolio and N. Jayaraj as chief whip in the 2021 government. Those are dated historical claims, not a refreshed 2026 cabinet or seat list. [opp-c-kcm-history]
Farmers and labourers in a common economic framework
The party’s toiling-class theory groups farmers and agricultural labourers within a broad working-class conception. This explains its policy vocabulary and claimed constituency. It does not establish agricultural income gains or fair distribution of subsidies; those require programme expenditure and outcome evidence tied to the relevant ministry and period. [opp-c-kcm-theory]
Father-to-son continuity, with the procedure kept separate
The original 2024 nomination notice and affidavit identify Jose K. Mani’s father as K. M. Mani. The party’s chair biography describes Jose’s selection following his father’s death. Analysis: this is documented family continuity in leadership. Whether selection was competitive requires nominations and voting records; kinship alone does not establish an abuse of public office. [opp-c-kcm-affidavit][opp-c-kcm-chair]
Faith and education in a specific legislative dispute
The 2008 motion concerns textbook content and religious belief. It should be read as an identified legislator’s intervention, not treated as proof that the party opposes Hinduism or favours every religious practice. The original party history describes a democratic, secular and socialist social order; conduct must be checked against that stated commitment. [opp-c-kerala-motions][opp-c-kcm-history]
No substitute for the original case and latest outcome
The party biographies and ideology statement supply its public explanation. A complete audit and criminal-case history—including any allegation against past individual office-holders—is not authenticated by these sources. This profile therefore makes no corruption verdict and does not erase allegations either. Any case added later must identify the respondent, decision, relief and latest verified development. No contact for comment is implied. [opp-c-kcm-chair][opp-c-kcm-theory]
Reading the election record
Analysis: The party-labelled Kerala Congress (M) results are separate from the bracketless Kerala Congress winner. The 2020 alliance move is significant context, but a result cannot by itself prove that voters approved or rejected a single policy, family transition or corruption allegation.
